A little about me and how I work

Inner Compass is a private, one-to-one guidance service created by me, Bay. I bring together intuition, practical thinking, professional experience, and lived experience to help you work through personal questions, life transitions, career uncertainty, and difficult decisions. My approach is thoughtful, grounded, and personal. I take the time to understand the full context of your situation and offer guidance that is clear, honest, and tailored to you.

Why I started Inner Compass

Hi, I'm Bay. I studied civil engineering and built my career in the construction industry, working in project management and on complex projects where problem-solving, coordination, responsibility, and decision-making are part of everyday life. Working through high-pressure situations, competing priorities, and projects that needed to be brought back on track taught me how to stay grounded, look at problems from different angles, and find practical ways forward when the answer is not always obvious. Life outside of work has shaped me just as much. I became independent at a young age and learned how to navigate major changes largely on my own. Over the years, I have moved through hardship, loss, financial setbacks, disappointment, betrayal, uncertainty, and periods of having to rebuild. Those experiences developed not only resilience, but a deeper curiosity about why we think, feel, react, and make the choices we do. I have always been highly reflective. When something feels wrong, I naturally want to understand the pattern underneath it — what is causing it, what keeps repeating, what I can learn from it, and what may need to change. I later came to recognize this as a form of metacognition: being able to observe our own thinking, emotions, behaviors, and patterns with enough awareness to make different choices. Intuition has also been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I often had a strong inner sense of where situations were heading or what was happening beneath the surface before it became obvious. Over time, I realized that I naturally notice patterns, emotional dynamics, inconsistencies, and subtle details that others may overlook. I don't see intuition and logic as opposites. My engineering background trained me to examine facts, risks, details, and cause-and-effect. My intuitive side helps me notice what may not yet be fully visible. I believe the clearest guidance often comes when the two work together. Another lesson I have learned is that belonging does not have to mean fitting in. There have been many times in my life when I felt slightly outside of the environments around me — observing, questioning, or simply seeing things differently. With time, I began to understand that not fitting somewhere does not always mean something is wrong. Sometimes it is information. Real belonging begins when we know ourselves well enough that we no longer have to abandon who we are in order to be accepted. To me, life is a continual process of becoming. We cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we understand it, what we learn from it, and what we build from it. Growth can come from our successes, but some of our greatest clarity can also come from experiences we never would have chosen. I also believe deeply in gratitude — not as a way of ignoring what has been difficult, but as a way of recognizing how far we have come, what we have already overcome, and what we have been able to create from where we once stood. Inner Compass grew from my desire to turn what I have learned through education, professional experience, intuition, self-reflection, and life itself into something meaningful that I can give back to others. I am not here to tell someone who they should be or what their life should look like. I hope to help people understand themselves and their situations more clearly, recognize the patterns that may be shaping their choices, regain trust in themselves, and find a direction forward that feels genuinely their own. Because becoming is not about becoming someone else. Sometimes it is simply about finding your way back to yourself.
